Position Overview: The Manager of Project Accounting will work closely with a team of project accountants to manage financial functions, including project accounting, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations and audits. Our ideal candidate uses strong analytical skills to create detailed financial reports and forecasts. To succeed in this role, you should also have a problem-solving attitude and be able to manage a team. Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our financial management is accurate and effective.
- Oversee Daily Accounting Operations
- Direct and review all daily accounting activities related to project accounting, accounts payable/receivable, the general ledger, bank reconciliations, expense coding, and revenue recognition.
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of financial transactions in accordance with company standards and GAAP.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Lead Compliance, Audit, and Tax Activities
- Coordinate and prepare documentation for internal compliance checks, external financial reviews, and state/federal tax audits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors, providing clear explanations and ensuring timely resolution of findings.
- Maintain audit-ready financial files and internal controls that reduce risk and ensure transparency.
- Develop and Manage Budgets & Forecasting
- Help provide inputs to FP&A and S&OP team (as requested) to aid build-out of comprehensive budget reports, cost projections, and revenue forecasts for the year and for projects.
- Provide explanations for any budget-to-actual variances and present insights to leadership, including recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Work closely with FP&A, S&OP, project managers and operations leaders to ensure alignment between financial planning and project deliverables.
- Manage Month-End and Year-End Close Processes
- Oversee the full cycle closing process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Verify accuracy of project cost allocations, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and revenue recognition.
- Ensure all deadlines are met and reporting packages are finalized with a high degree of accuracy.
- Monitor Departmental and Team Performance
- Track daily workflow and productivity within the accounting team to ensure service levels, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and training to team members to support continuous improvement.
- Identify workload bottlenecks and implement process enhancements or reassignments when needed.
- Maintain and Organize Financial Data
- Oversee the structuring, storage, and maintenance of project financial records, ensuring data is accurate, complete, and easily retrievable.
- Implement standardized procedures for data management and document retention.
- Utilize accounting software and reporting tools to convert raw data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
- Track Financial Performance and Objectives
- Monitor progress toward financial goals, KPIs, and departmental objectives, including cash flow, profitability, aging summaries, and invoice turnaround times.
- Provide routine performance updates to senior leadership and recommend corrective actions when targets are at risk.
- Support development of dashboards or reporting systems to highlight real-time financial performance.
- Establish and Maintain Accounting Policies & Procedures
- Develop, refine, and enforce accounting procedures, internal controls, and workflow guidelines that support accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all financial practices align with company strategy, project requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Train staff on policy changes and ensure consistent application across the department.
- Ensure Regulatory and Legal Compliance
- Stay current on changes in accounting regulations, industry standards, and tax laws affecting the business.
- Ensure all financial reporting, tax filings, and accounting operations remain compliant with GAAP, state and federal regulations, and corporate policy.
- Conduct internal reviews to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Proven work experience as a supervisory position in accounting
- 3-5 years' Experience with Net Suite ERP. Specifically in Project Accounting
- Strong computer skills, MS Excel in particular (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas), also Power BI proficiency
- Solid knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, laws, and regulations
- Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data
- Attention to detail and accuracy

- Ability to prioritize work
- BS degree in Accounting or Finance
- Accounting certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) is a plus
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, leading cross-functional teams and mentoring team members to achieve project objectives.
- Adaptability and flexibility to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

- Occasional walking around the office, attending meetings, and visiting different departments.
- Proficient in using a computer, including typing, using a mouse, and other peripherals.
- Ability to read and analyze documents, computer screens, and technical diagrams.
- Effective listening skills for communication during interviews, meetings, both in-person and virtual.
- Potential travel to different locations for meetings, conferences, or site visits, which might involve driving or flying.
