The Residential Building Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that residential construction projects comply with applicable Los Angeles County building codes, safety regulations, zoning ordinances, and approved plans. The inspector conducts on-site inspections at various stages of construction to verify structural integrity, code compliance, and overall safety.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of residential properties at different phases (foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and final inspection)
Verify compliance with LA County building codes and regulations
Review construction plans, blueprints, and specifications prior to and during inspections
Identify code violations, deficiencies, or safety hazards and document findings
Issue correction notices and follow up to ensure deficiencies are resolved
Approve completed work or recommend corrective actions before approval
Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation
Collaborate with contractors, homeowners, engineers, and architects
Provide guidance on code requirements and best practices
Stay current with updates to building codes and industry standards
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification as an ICC Residential building inspector plus one additional certification as a Residential Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing inspector
Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in construction, inspection, or a related field
Strong knowledge of residential building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
