DESCRIPTION:
We have an excellent opportunity in the Building Division for the position of Plan Check Associate. We are seeking a customer service-oriented individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The Plan Check Associate performs a broad range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review a full range of construction plans, including complex and technically challenging projects such as single- and multi-family dwellings, residential additions and alterations, as well as commercial and industrial buildings, including new construction, additions, repairs, and remodels.
Read and interprets architectural and structural engineering plans to ensure conformance with the California codes, structural design codes, and local municipal codes.
Respond to inquiries from and provides information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, homeowners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code-related issues.
Review engineering calculations, geotechnical reports and documentation intended to support the design of the construction documents.
Assistant the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code, and permit fee questions) and approves over the counter plan revisions to issued permits.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil engineering plans to ensure conformance with building code standards and other related regulations.
Knowledge of engineering procedures, terminology, principles, and theories as related to the structural components of buildings and structures.
Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with external and internal partners.
Knowledge of International and California Building Codes.
Knowledge of structural design codes including ASCE 7, ACI, NDS and AISC.
A valid California Class C driver’s license.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. A master's degree is highly desirable.
3+ years of responsible technical experience as a Plan Checker or Design Engineer, including two years of technical experience in plan checking or design at a level comparable to a Plan Check Assistant with the City of Thousand Oaks.
Possession of, or ability to obtain ICC Plans Examiner certification.
Eligibility to take the qualifying examination for California EIT registration is highly desirable.
